VeinTerra Deities

 Erythos

The god of truth and vitality.

Erythos is one of the original gods: born from the raw pulse of the Vein. He was not created by mortals, but for them. The need for order, clarity, and preservation of life demanded the birth of this god. His presence is capable of burning away falsehoods, revealing facts and their core meanings behind them. This pursuit of truth can make Erythos an inflexible deity unwilling to cater to the comfort of belief. But he did not come to rule—he came to reveal.

The name Erythos speaks of the lifeblood of existence and the guiding force of truth. It suggests a god who is both deeply involved in the soul's essence and in guiding individuals to discover their true path—destiny. Where Erythos reigns, falsehoods crumble. The focus Erythos has on life and balance appeals to those who understand the delicate balance between right and wrong, truth and lie, and who are willing to sacrifice personal desired for the greater good.

Erythos represents a god of justice, one who judges the hearts of those who serve him. He is both a protector and a judge, someone whose favor is vital for the purity of one’s soul. His largest following is comprised of Valedins: healers, defenders, and guardians of justice. His followers see him as a protector of souls, one who guides them through challenges, and a god who upholds justice.

Raephys

The goddess of illusions.

Raephys was born from the collective belief of her followers. Ancient Skythreaded Veinborn were the original creators of this goddess figure. With their connection to the astral plane and ability to manipulate the intangible, the Skythreaded manifested Raephys from illusions they created. Their own illusions blended with reality, giving rise to the goddess of illusion.

The name Raephys invokes deceptiveness of light—something that can reveal and obscure at the same time. This is central to the duality of her divine role: her follows see only what they want to see, while Raephys herself remains an elusive figure, a source of distorted and incomplete truth.

She is not a true god in the traditional sense. Rather she is a manifestation of ideals and dreams. This makes her unstable and dependent on the perception of others. She cannot truly shape reality, only alter perceptions of it. As the goddess of illusions, she can offer people power, knowledge, or fulfillment, all through deception. This has led to a growing number of devout followers across the realm.

Over time, Raephys grows discontent with her status as a "less than" goddess. She wants to be more than a reflection of others' desires. Raephys desires to be a true goddess in her own right, with independent power. Driving her ambition is the fact that her existence must be constantly propped up by her followers. Additionally, many of the other gods perceive her as a gross perversion of the very essence of the Vein. This makes her feel hollow and leads to her obsession with obtaining true divinitysomething beyond mere illusion.

Sheovar

The god of endings and death.

There is vitality and there there is Sheovar. Though opposites, they work in harmony, as you cannot have life without death. Sheovar emerged from the other side of the Vein. He is the governor of death—the essential force ensuring life does not spiral into excess. Where the Vein is the pulse of life, Sheovar is the pause between the beasts.

For those who accept death, Sheovar is a liberator. For those who reject or defy it, he is merciless. His teachings focus on death's role in the natural cycle: it is not to be feared by embraced. Sheovar is a guardian of the necessary end. His very presence marks the passing of cycles and the release of energy.

He is never depicted by his worshippers—they do not believe he needs form, as his presence is in absence. Assassins and judges who invoke his name before delivering fates have a strict code: death is given in balance, not vengeance or anger. Sheovar has a secret society of assassins who pledge their devotion and allegiance to him: the Veilcutters. Most members are rogues and monks who value silence and balance above all other things.
